Sandra Bridges Jones
Sandra “Sandy” Bridges Jones, 80, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025.
Sandy will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her diligence, faithfulness and generosity touched many lives, and her commitment to helping others was an inspiration to
all who knew her.
Sandy’s love for her family was evident in everything she did. She found great joy in cooking for her loved ones, often filling her home with the aroma of their favorite dishes. She cherished attending her grandchildren’s school and extracurricular events and took delight in celebrating each of their milestones.
An avid traveler, Sandy explored the USA with Billy during their 10 years of dating and 27 years of marriage, creating cherished memories on countless adventures. She also enjoyed international journeys with her sister, Patty, and her Birthday Club girlfriends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Russell Garrett Bridges; mother, Mary Jane Bridges; sister, Susan Bridges; and infant twin daughters.
Sandy is survived by her devoted husband, Billy Jones; children, Stephanie Thompson Field (Chan) and Fred Sullivan (Marissa); stepchildren, Bryan Jones (Amy) and Erin Jones Meert (Greg); sister, Patricia Bridges Parker (James); brother, Russell Garrett Bridges (Renee); grandchildren – Sydney Field, Ben Field, Sophia Sullivan, Emma Sullivan, Davis Sullivan (Piper), Brycen Jones, Adalynn Jones, Kayden Williams, Nolan Williams and Abram Meert; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was a graduate of Herschel V. Jenkins High School and Armstrong Atlantic State University. Sandy served as the senior class secretary and was a vital member of the Jenkins Class of ‘62 reunion committee, enjoying lifelong friendships with her classmates. She was the 1962 Homecoming Queen at Armstrong and volunteered for many years as a member of the Alumni Association, serving as its president in 2009-2010.
Sandy was blessed with wonderful friendships as a member of the Beta Sigma chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International Sorority. She was crowned Savannah Sweetheart in 1967 and served as the chapter president in 1969-1970, as well as the E.S.A. City Council Corresponding Secretary.
She worked for the City of Savannah Human Resources Department for 42 years, advancing from Personnel Clerk to Assistant Personnel Director, and retiring as the Human Resources Administrator of Employee Benefits. She was a member and leader in the Local Government Personnel Association, a member of the International Personnel Management Association, and an original member of the Savannah Business Group, through which she served on the IRB for Candler/St. Joseph’s Hospitals.
A faithful member of Grace Church of Savannah, Sandy taught Sunday School, served on various committees, and volunteered as treasurer of Anna Circle and for many annual church BBQs and fall festivals. She actively participated in Women of Grace outreach events, mission projects and loved organizing and preparing meals for church families and special events.

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. I knew Sandy for many years, from Elementary school, all the way through High School and Armstrong. She was always a special person and I have many fond memories of her. I last saw her at the Jenkins reunion at the Crab Shack on Tybee and we had a great visit then. She will certainly be missed by many.

Sandy and I worked together for the City of Savannah in the Human Resources Department for many years. Even after I retired, we shared a friendship that is close to my heart. We did travel, did line dancing, and joined the Bible class which she invited me to do so. She was an inspiration to me and many others. Will miss her!
